COURSE REVIEW CYCLE 2025-PRESENT

History

Prior to 2024, Ventura College reviewed courses if and when they reached 5 years since last review. Once a course became 5 years since last review, it was placed on the "Priority 1" list, and departments were asked to revise the course and submit to workflow so that it could be considered by the Curriculum Committee. This system resulted in courses from all over the catalog being revised at random times, with a given department likely having at least one of their courses up for review each and every semester. It was also difficult to track, and separate additional systems were put in place just to determine which courses were due, when.

In Spring 2024, the VC Curriculum Committee approved a new review cycle to replace the old Priority 1 system. This new review cycle has each department review all courses in their department once every 5 years. The idea is to tackle all courses at once. This way, the process of review will be more efficient (find one thing that needs changing in a course, and then just do that same change in all courses, as appropriate); it will also be concentrated work that will mean less (zero) curriculum work in the intervening 4 years.
