Student Athlete Code of Conduct

Student Athlete Code of Conduct

It is a privilege being a Student Athlete at Ventura College.  With this privilege comes responsibility. Below is our Student Athlete Code of Conduct

Guiding Principle

It is an honor and a rare accomplishment to have become a college athlete. We welcome you to our group. The Athletics department at Ventura College aspires to provide each of its students with an experience that will be enjoyed, cherished and remembered. We hope to sustain a culture of excellence on our campus. We strive to excel in all areas of college life: competition, academics, behavior, citizenship and social responsibility. We strive to be known and recognized on campus. We hope that other clubs, organizations and departments on our campus look at VC student athletes with a sense of pride. While our demands are high and our expectations unique among VC students, the benefits of creating and maintaining this enviable culture are far-reaching.

Sportsmanship Policy

Each student-athlete is a representative of their team, Athletics and the College. Each student should demonstrate good sportsmanship at all athletic events, whether competing or observing. Poor sportsmanship is not what VC is about. The following is a list of behaviors that will not be tolerated:

  • Physical or verbal abuse of players, spectators, officials, coaches or administrators.
  • Throwing objects onto the playing surface or at any participant (players, coaches, officials or spectators, etc.)

Sportsmanship also includes the 3C2A Decorum Policy.  The following offense will result in stated discipline plus any other sanctions deemed appropriate:

A. Ejection from a contest for language or unsportsmanlike conduct will result in suspension from the next scheduled contest.

B. Second ejection from a contest in the same season will result in a suspension from all remaining contests.

C. Physically assaulting or attempting to physically assault an official shall result in immediate ejection and the individual shall be suspended from participation in any 3C2A event for a period of sixty (60) months.

D. Physically assaulting or attempting to assault anyone (other than an official) during an event will result in ejection from that contest and suspension from the next two contests.

E. Leaving position or the bench/sidelines in reaction to an altercation, but not becoming physically involved will result in ejection from that contest and suspension from the next scheduled contest.

F. The use or possession of any drugs, alcohol or tobacco will result in ejection from that contest and suspension from the next two contests.

Violation of this sportsmanship policy and/or 3C2A Decorum Policy can result in sanctions imposed by the Director of Athletics, which may include suspension or dismissal from your team. We pride ourselves in the way we play and, in the way, we support our fellow athletes.

Social Media Warning

Student-athletes must be aware that some online behavior may embarrass themselves, their teammates, their sports programs and/or Ventura College and may result in loss of future scholarships opportunities.

Athletics wants you to keep in mind the following while using social media:

Many law enforcement agencies, potential employers, graduate programs and scholarship committees screen social networking sites, so exercise caution on these sites.

Students-athletes could face discipline, including dismissal from their teams, if their content or behavior depicted on social media violates Ventura College's Student Code of Conduct Links to an external site. or the policies of Athletics, the Western State Conference, Southern California Football Association or the 3C2A.
