Screencast-O-Matic - Record PowerPoints, Demonstrations, and More

Image of the Screencast O Matic user interfaceScreencast O Matic Links to an external site. is a well known computer screen recorder that records on-screen activity for short tutorials, visual presentations, and communication of goals or materials.  As a teacher, you can use it to record your voice over Powerpoints, explain modules in Canvas, describe a painting or artwork, demo a math problem, and even diagram a sentence or flow chart.  It will record the screen while you demo so you can use any software that you like such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, or Google Chrome.   It also has the capability to record your webcam at the same time for a little teacher presence in the online course. 

Here is a brief overview Links to an external site. of Screencast O Matic on their website.  Basically the free version allows a teacher or student to record up to 15 minute long presentations, export them to YouTube or a video file.  We can also explain how to close caption your videos at YouTube(link) or 3CMedia(link).   If you would like a demonstration of how to use this tool please contact one of your instructional technologist / designers.
